Who it's for

Built for your wiring

Athletes, executives, and high-achieving adults with ADHD who are done managing symptoms and ready to perform from clarity.

What you get

Real tools, not just talk

A structured Mental Architecture — strategy, focus anchors, and optional performance hypnotherapy you can use between sessions.

Next step

Start with a free consult

A no-pressure 15-minute call, fully virtual, worldwide. You leave with a clear next step — even if we don't work together.

Is This You?

If any of this sounds familiar — you're in the right place.

My clients come in for very different reasons. Most of them share the same quiet feeling: something needs to change, and I'm tired of doing it alone.

Most of my ADHD clients don't walk in talking about ADHD. They walk in talking about the exhaustion of performing. The weight of always being the one who holds it together. The strange loneliness of being capable and invisible at the same time.

What's underneath that is almost always the same: a self-image that never caught up with who they actually are. Doubt so deep it feels like fact. Emotions they learned early were dangerous to show.

That's what we actually work on. The ADHD is the door in. Sovereignty is what's on the other side.

🏅

You're an athlete with ADHD

You perform well on the field but crash off it — and no one around you gets why. You're not broken. You're wired differently, and you need a coach who actually knows that world.

🦋

You're navigating ADHD

Diagnosed or suspected. You've pushed through your whole life, but it's louder now and costing you.

🕯️

You're stretched thin or burned out

Always "on." The performance is working — but underneath it, you're depleted.

🌊

You're in a life transition

A career pivot, divorce, loss, identity shift. Familiar coping isn't holding anymore.

🤸

You're a high performer

Pilot, attorney, executive, athlete, founder, creative. You want a strategy — not a vent session.

🛋️

You've tried therapy before

And it felt too passive, too slow, or too disconnected from the real demands of your life.

🧰

You want real tools

CBT-style strategy, hypnotherapy, structured reflection. Things you can use between sessions, not just talk about in them.

🎭

You mask — and you're exhausted by it

You've spent years performing the version of yourself that keeps everyone comfortable. You're not sure who's underneath anymore.

🪞

Your self-image hasn't caught up to your life

On paper you're successful. Inside, there's still that kid who got in trouble for being too much. The doubt runs deeper than the accomplishments.

🍽️

You people-please to stay safe

Disappointing someone doesn't feel like discomfort — it feels like danger. You've organized your whole life around avoiding it.

🌋

Your emotions feel like too much

You learned early that your feelings caused problems. So you buried them. Now they're running things from underground.

You don't need to be in crisis to come in.
You just need to be ready for a change to actually stick.

Cognitive Assessment

Brain vs. Checkers Brain

Take this 60-second micro-assessment to find out how your high-performing ADHD brain processes strategy, attention, and executive load under high stakes.

QUESTION 1 OF 4

When faced with a high-stakes challenge, how does your attention behave?

How I Coach

Structured, direct, and built around your life.

Most ADHD coaches give you a template. I give you a lab.

When you come into ChessChess Lab

Click piece, then click move square
Performance Lab, we analyze how your ADHD actually shows up — not how the textbook says it should. Your symptoms. Your patterns. Your specific wiring. Because no two ADHD brains present the same way, and solutions that don't account for that aren't solutions. This is precision work. Built for you. Not borrowed from someone else.

I call my method Mental Architecture — a structured, goal-oriented coaching framework that blends evidence-based tools with real strategy. Here's what I bring into every session.

🧰

CBT-Style Tools

Practical, evidence-based strategies to interrupt the patterns keeping you stuck. You'll learn them so you can use them on your own.

♟️

Solution-Focused Strategy

We define what success actually looks like — and build a roadmap toward it from day one. No staying stuck in the problem.

🌊

Performance Hypnotherapy

Hypnotherapy for focus, performance state, and reaching the patterns that thinking alone can't touch. Optional — and you're in control the whole time.

🫀

Intuitive + Heart

Strategic coach with heart. I read between the lines, I'm honest, and I genuinely care about your growth — not just your case file.

What You'll Walk Away With

Real tools. Real progress. A different relationship with your life.

This isn't venting coaching. It's working coaching. Here's what clients consistently say they get.

🗺️

A clear roadmap

No more open-ended sessions. You'll know what we're working on and why.

🧰

Tools that work between sessions

CBT-style skills, hypnotherapy techniques, structured reflections — things you can actually use.

🦋

Real understanding around ADHD

If ADHD is part of your picture, I get it. We work with how your brain actually functions.

🪞

Honest, compassionate feedback

I'll gently challenge the patterns when it's useful. You'll never be judged. You will be seen.

🌿

Permission to be the full you

Faith, intuition, sport, science, story — all of it is welcome in the room.

♟️

A coach who shows up

Direct. Prepared. Genuinely invested. Same energy session one and session fifty.

Vibe Check

This isn't stiff. This isn't awkward.
This is actually fun.

I'm not a robotic, sterile, "How does that make you feel?" coach. My background is the LPGA Tour, the PGA fairway, the diving board, the stage at Coachella, and twenty-six years sitting across from people doing real work. That energy comes into the room.

Sessions feel like a sharp, collaborative conversation with someone who actually gets the demands of your life — with laughter where it belongs and a little extra warmth where you need it.

😂

We laugh, intentionally

Humor breaks down awkwardness and makes hard things easier to look at. It's a tool, not a distraction.

🏋️

High energy, real strategy

You'll feel the motivating rhythm of a sports performance coach — direct, active, and built around your real life.

🫂

Zero judgment, full presence

You can say the thing you've never said out loud. That's exactly the kind of room this is.

🌡️

Accountability with warmth

I'll gently challenge you when it's time. I'll also know exactly when to soften. That balance is the work.

★★★★★

"She knows when to push, and when not to push, and is very compassionate, funny, and growth oriented."

— Verified client, age 45–54

The Science Behind the Work

Two frameworks I use in every session.

Twenty-six years of sport psychology, performance coaching, and lived experience compressed into two visual models you'll learn to use yourself.

Framework One

The Performance Curve

Yerkes–Dodson Law · The bell curve every elite athlete and executive learns to live by.

Under-Aroused
Bored, scattered, foggy
Peak Performance
Calm. Focused. In flow.
Over-Aroused
Anxious, reactive, panicked
The Flow State

Peak Flow: Calm, Focused, and Regulated

The sweet spot of Yerkes-Dodson Law. A balanced, regulated nervous system allows you to operate with deep execution, sharp concentration, and zero internal resistance.

The Key: This is a quiet state of high-end, effortless control. You feel centered, time dilates slightly, and you handle complex, high-stakes tasks without depletion.

Nicole's Coaching Approach: ADHDers usually fall into flow by accident (hyperfocus) and crash. We study your biology to teach you how to access, enter, and anchor this state intentionally.

Most clients live too far right — high stress, high arousal, low output. We learn to recognize where you are on the curve in real time, and use the tools to bring you back to center. That's the whole performance game.

Framework Two

The Hierarchy of Sovereignty

My version of Maslow — built specifically for performance and transformation work.

LEVEL 04LucidityMetacognition restored. You see yourself thinking.
LEVEL 03Emotional TruthShadow integrated. You stop performing for the room.
LEVEL 02Strategic IdentityYou know who you are. You make moves from there.
LEVEL 01Biological SafetyNervous system regulated. Body stops bracing.

We build from the body up. No skipping levels. You can't think strategically when your nervous system is in alarm, and you can't reach lucidity without first making peace with your emotional truth.

Somatic Application

Tactical Box Breathing

Used by Olympic athletes and Navy SEALs to instantly deactivate fight-or-flight, unbrace the body, and restore cognitive control under maximum high stakes.

Instructions: Sit comfortably, unbrace your jaw, and drop your shoulders. Click the button to synchronize your breath. Try to complete 3 cycles to activate vagal tone.

Nicole Chess, Mental Performance Coach
Hello, I'm Nicole

The real thing. No script.

"I bring the framework and the tools. You bring the willingness. Together we turn insight into real, lasting change."

I'm a Mental Performance Coach with 26 years of one-on-one client work. I'm also a former LPGA Tour professional and PGA caddy — which means I understand high-pressure performance, perfectionism, and the cost of pushing through, from the inside out.

I wasn't diagnosed with ADHD until I was 27. By then I'd already played on the LPGA Tour — pushing through on sheer determination and not understanding why everything cost me twice as much as it seemed to cost everyone else. When I got the right support, something shifted I didn't expect. I could see the golf ball differently in the sky. I went on to earn straight A's in my master's program. That's not a medication story. That's a clarity story. And it's exactly what I help you find.

ChessChess Lab

Click piece, then click move square
Performance Lab is named intentionally. The ADHD brain is not a checkers brain — it's a ChessChess Lab
Click piece, then click move square
brain.
It sees the whole board at once. It makes connections others miss. It hyperfocuses on what matters and struggles with what doesn't. The lab is where you stop fighting that brain and start playing your own game — with structure, strategy, and someone in your corner who has studied the board for twenty-six years.

My training is deep: I hold an MA in Sport Psychology from John F. Kennedy University (1999), am a Certified Performance Hypnotherapist (CCHt, 1999), and hold an ADHD Coaching Certification from Evergreen Coaching — with over two decades of one-on-one performance coaching. My background also includes licensure as an LMFT — that clinical depth informs my coaching framework, but the work at ChessChess Lab

Click piece, then click move square
Performance Lab is coaching only.

My approach is direct because I respect your time, compassionate because I know how hard it is to ask for help, and honest because that's the only kind of coaching worth doing.

And yes — we laugh in here. A lot. I'm not a “how does that make you feel?” kind of coach. Sessions with me are real conversations — sharp, warm, sometimes funny, occasionally interrupted by something I just have to say before I forget it. People often tell me they leave a session feeling lighter than when they walked in. That's the point.

Why I'm Not Like Other Coaches

Four things that make me unrepeatable.

Not credentials. Combinations. Each one is rare on its own. Together, they don't really exist anywhere else.

01

Rare Dual Master's

Most coaches hold one credential. I hold a dual master's — an MA in Sport Psychology and an MA in Marriage & Family Therapy — plus an ADHD coaching certification and performance hypnotherapy training. That means I can hold the depth of performance science AND the human complexity underneath it, in the same room.

02

Lived Resilience

I'm not teaching coping skills from a textbook. I'm an ADHD-certified coach who has navigated high-pressure performance environments for twenty-six years. I know what it costs to push through — and what it looks like when you finally stop having to.

03

Mental Architecture

Most coaching stays surface-level. I built a structured, engineerable framework for the mind — Mental Architecture — that speaks the language of athletes and high performers who want measurable progress, not open-ended exploration.

04

Elite Athlete Lens

LPGA Tour pro. PGA caddy. I know real-time stress and high-stakes scrutiny from the inside out. That coaching rhythm brings genuine athletic performance intelligence into every session.

Deep Differentiation

The Lab vs. The Template

Most ADHD coaching gives you a list of generic rules and planners. At ChessChess Lab

Click piece, then click move square
Performance Lab, we surgically decode how your individual brain operates to build actual sovereignty.

The Template

Typical ADHD Coaching

Focuses on surface-level survival, coping worksheets, and forcing you to fit into standard neurotypical boxes.

  • Cookie-Cutter Checklists

Relies on generic time-management handouts, planners, and off-the-shelf productivity "hacks" that often feel like another chore to feel guilty about failing.

  • Single-Credential Weekend Training

Typically conducted by coaches holding a weekend seminar certificate or non-specialized general life coach credential. Completely lacks clinical or high-stakes insight.

  • Symptom Management Focus

Focuses on masking and managing the behavioral symptoms of ADHD—trying to force executive functioning through willpower, which leads to exhaustion.

  • No Lived Performance Context

Teaches textbook coping strategies. Does not understand the intense physical, biological, and mental pressures of professional athletics, legal careers, or executive suites.

  • The Outcome: Chronic Fatigue

The finish line is simply learning to cope, manage shame, and survive daily tasks. A high-friction lifestyle that constantly drains your battery.

The Lab

ChessChess Lab
Click piece, then click move square
Performance Lab

Focuses on biological safety, custom nervous system regulation, and elite performance execution under pressure.

  • Precision Mental Architecture

We analyze exactly how your neurodivergence presents. Your symptoms, triggers, and patterns are decoded to build a precise blueprint built for you, not borrowed.

  • Dual Master's Clinical Depth

MA in Sport Psychology and MA in Marriage & Family Therapy (LMFT background). We hold the clinical literacy to integrate shame, heal self-image, and untangle complex trauma.

  • Subconscious Hypnotherapy (CCHt)

Performance hypnotherapy to rewire focus and emotional states. We bypass executive resistance to reach subconscious patterns that thinking and talk-coaching alone can't touch.

  • Former LPGA Tour Pro Authority

Nicole played at the highest competitive level on the LPGA Tour and caddied on the PGA. She has lived and studied extreme, real-world focus under scrutiny for 26 years.

  • The Outcome: Sovereignty & Flow

You stop fighting your brain and start playing your own game. A regulated nervous system, deep self-trust, and effortless, high-performance execution.

A Tool We Use in Session

Name it to tame it.

Most high performers live three feelings above or below the one they're actually in. "Fine." "Stressed." "Overwhelmed." We get more specific than that — because the exact word is the first move.

How do you feel? RIGHT NOW JOY SURPRISE DISGUST ANGER FEAR SADNESS GRATEFUL · HOPEFUL AMAZED · EXCITED CRITICAL · APPALLED FURIOUS · IRRITATED ANXIOUS · SCARED LONELY · GRIEF ECSTATIC ELATED CONFUSED STARTLED JUDGMENTAL REVOLTED FRUSTRATED ENRAGED WORRIED OVERWHELMED HOPELESS DEPRESSED
🎭

Why we use it

Most high performers default to "fine," "stressed," or "overwhelmed." The wheel gets us the actual word — and the actual word is the first move toward changing the state.

🦋

ADHD brains especially

Emotional dysregulation is one of the least-talked-about ADHD symptoms. Name what's happening and you can stop being run by it. That's the whole game.

In every session

We start here every time. Not "how are you" — but specifically, what word on this wheel fits right now? It sounds small. It changes everything.

Self-Filter

I'm not for everyone — and that's the point.

Premium coaching only works when both sides are right. Here's the honest version of who flourishes with me, and who doesn't.

✓ Good Fit

If you're this person, we'll fly.

The High-Stakes Professional or Athlete

Executive, founder, attorney, pilot, surgeon, competitor. You face real pressure daily and need to protect your edge — not just process feelings about it.

The High-Achieving Neurodivergent

Adult with high-functioning ADHD who wants concrete systems and real strategy — not just space to talk about being unfocused.

The Action-Oriented Problem Solver

You love structure. You don't mind a little homework. You want measurable progress you can actually track between sessions.

The Direct + Witty

You respond well to humor, high energy, and someone who'll gently call you out and keep you accountable. You want a peer, not a parent.

✕ Probably Not

If you're this person, I'll help you find someone better.

Looking for Pure Venting

If you want a quiet "blank-slate" therapist who nods for 50 minutes and never interrupts, my style will feel disruptive. That's a different kind of useful work — and not the kind I do.

Can't or Won't Do Homework

If you want to leave the work at the door and never think about it between sessions, my accountability model won't work for you. No shame in that — but be honest.

Highly Fragile to Direct Feedback

If you're in a moment where candor or humor will land as harsh or invalidating, a softer, slower-paced coach will serve you better right now. I'll happily refer you.

Needs Crisis Stabilization

If you need crisis stabilization or intensive mental health support, that's not coaching. A licensed clinical provider will fit you better — and I'll help you find one.

If you saw yourself in the green column — let's talk. If you saw yourself on the right — I respect the honesty, and I'd still love to point you toward the right person.

Before Your First Session

The Agreement.

A few mutual commitments so we get the most out of every hour together. Nothing here is unusual — just clear.

What I promise you

I'll show up fully.

  • Priority scheduling. Once you sign up, you get first pick on my calendar.
  • Honest, prepared, present. Every session. No phoning it in.
  • Flexibility. I'll do my best to work with your schedule when life happens.
  • I'll go as deep as you go. If you're ready for the real work, so am I.
  • Total discretion. What's said in our sessions stays in our sessions. Always.
  • Tools you can keep. You'll leave with skills you use the rest of your life.
What I ask from you

Show up ready.

  • Be alone & undisturbed. A private space. Door closed. No interruptions — the work needs your full attention.
  • Strong, stable internet. A laggy connection breaks the rhythm we're building.
  • Laptop over phone if at all possible. We read each other better when we can actually see each other.
  • Cancel with notice. 24 hours when you can. I'll do the same for you.
  • Participate. This is active work, not a podcast. The depth depends on you meeting me here.
  • Trust the process. Real change isn't linear. Sit with the uncomfortable. That's where it lives.

"I won't take you anywhere I haven't already been. And I won't judge what you bring into the room — I've probably lived a version of it."

Questions People Ask First

The honest answers.

Is this coaching?
ChessChess Lab
Click piece, then click move square
Performance Lab is a coaching practice. Our work focuses on performance, strategy, growth, focus, and life transitions. It is not psychotherapy, and it is not intended to diagnose or treat any mental health condition. My background includes licensure as an LMFT — that clinical depth informs the framework I use, but it does not make this therapy. If clinical therapy is what you need, I'll help you find the right provider.
I've never done coaching before. Is that okay?
Absolutely. A lot of my clients are first-timers. You don't need to have the right words or a list of issues. You just need to show up. I'll guide the rest.
What does a first session actually look like?
A secure video call. We talk about what's bringing you in, what you've tried before, and what you want to be different. I ask thoughtful questions. We define what success looks like. You leave with a clear next step. That's it.
Where do you work? Do I need to live in California?
No — coaching can happen anywhere in the world. All sessions are virtual. No location requirement.
Do you take insurance?
Coaching is not covered by insurance. If you need insurance-covered mental health services, I'm happy to point you toward the right clinical provider during your free consult.
How is this different from other coaching?
My style is structured and direct. We define goals from day one. I use my Mental Architecture framework — CBT-style strategy, solution-focused work, and certified clinical hypnotherapy — so you get real tools you can use between sessions, not just a place to talk. That said, I'm also compassionate, intuitive, and human. This is coaching with heart.
What's performance hypnotherapy actually like? Will I lose control?
Never. You're awake and in full control the entire time — you can open your eyes and stop whenever you want. Most clients describe it as the most relaxed they've ever been, with cleaner thinking afterward. It's completely optional in our work.
Do you specialize in ADHD?
Yes — it's one of my most common focuses. I work with adults who've been diagnosed, suspect they have it, or have known for years. We work with how your brain actually functions instead of fighting it. (Note: I don't diagnose; coaching supports you in working with what's already known about your own mind.)
How long does coaching usually take?
It depends entirely on your goals. Some clients work with me for a few months on a specific issue. Some stay longer for ongoing support. I'll always be honest with you about where I think we are in the work.
What if we're not a good fit?
Coaching only works with a real connection. If after a few sessions it's not clicking, I'll happily refer you to someone who's a better match. No pressure, no hard feelings.
